DIY Cactus Ring Holder

IMG_8527

Well it looks like the cactus and the watermelon trend is here to stay for another summer, so I had to try my hand at making something that combined the two! Say hello to this rather cute watermelon print, cactus ring holder.

What you will Need

Air Dry Clay

Green & Red Paint

Black Fine-liner

Simply Creative Gold 3mm Gems

Old Pringles Lid

How to Make

Take an old Pringles lid and warm up some air dry clay by kneading it, roll it out thinly and then cover the Pringles lid with the clay, carefully pressing into the inner lip.

Roll a piece of clay to make the body of the cactus and then two shorter arms for each side. Stick all the elements together as shown. Leave to dry overnight.

Paint the body of the cactus and the base edge green. Then paint the inner of the base red and leave to dry. I used watercolour paints for a rustic, muted look but any paint will be ok.

When dry, use a black fine-liner to add the watermelon pips to the base of the ring holder.

To finish add some small gold gems to the body of the cactus to mimic the spikes.

This DIY make will look great holding your favourite jewellery, you can keep earrings and pins on the bottom and rings on the cactus arms.
