Alcohol Ink Valentine’s T-shirt Tutorial

I am back with another Valentine’s day inspired fashion DIY, today I will be showing you how to use alcohol inks to create a cool ink drop t-shirt, I will be making an oversized t-shirt for yoga but you could use it on any fabric like a scarf, tea towel or tote bag. Using alcohol ink leaves a lovely pattern and the great thing is, every make will be different and unique.

This T-shirt style is perfect for wearing on Valentine’s day but the simple Love design can also be worn all year round, you can create a unique t-shirt that could be be adapted and personalised for any occasion with different ink colours and quotes.

What you will Need

  • Alcohol Inks
  • Iron-on Glitter
  • A Plain T-shirt

How to Make

Take a white cotton t-shirt, I chose an oversized t-shirt so I could wear it for yoga but you can use any style you like. Give the t-shirt an iron to remove the creases then pop some surface protection inside the t-shirt, you could use foil or cardboard, I used my messy mat.

Time to get creative and messy, take a few colours of alcohol ink, I used a light pink, dark pink, red and white. Have fun dropping them onto the material to create an ink pattern, using a mix of large and small spots. The colours will mix together and blend to create new colours.

Leave the t-shirt to dry for an hour or you can speed up the process by using a heat tool to set the ink into the material, the great thing about alcohol ink is, it dries really fast!

Create your iron-on design, I went for the word Love that I found on the Cricut design space. If you don’t have a Cricut, you could die-cut a design or hand cut the iron-on material using scissors.

Position your iron-on design over the dried ink design, once happy with the placement, use an iron or an easy press to fix the design in place. I set mine on 330degrees for 30 seconds and then 15 seconds on the flip-side, followed by a cool peel.

And with a few easy steps you can create a colourful t-shirt for Valentine’s day that no-one else will have in their wardrobe.
