Tulle & Paper Embroidery Hoop DIY

Tulle & Paper Embroidery Hoop DIY

While browsing Instagram recently, I saw some gorgeous embroidery hoops with tulle and floral embroidered designs, I thought how great these would look as an autumn home decor display. They would be quite time consuming to create though, so paper seemed a quicker option.

Tulle is a really lovely but often overlooked craft material, unless you are making a tutu! But it offers a pretty and delicate look on your handmade projects, plus it is really in-expensive  to buy and you get a lot for your money. Find it online or at your local haberdashery store.

Trimcraft have just released the absolutely gorgeous Forever Free First Edition paper pad, with each release I say the newest paper collection is my favourite, but this one really is. The colour palette of dark grey, duck egg, orange and pink is perfect for Autumn. It was designed by the super talented Stephanie Davies. The designs include lovely icons of owls, rabbits, birds and stags with flower crowns.

How to Make a Floral Tulle Hoop

Cut a square of tulle larger than your embroidery hoop, you can add two layers if you like.  Clamp the tulle inside the embroidery hoop and tighten. Trim around the embroidery hoop leaving a 2cm border. If you have two layer cut the back layer slightly wider than the top layer.

Choose your favourite papers and punch or die cut your flowers, I used a mixture of sizes for my flowers. Bend the petals up to add some dimension then use a hot glue gun to stick them on top of the tulle. Make sure you protect your surface as the glue will drip through the delicate tulle.

Layer some of the blossoms together to add some extra detail to the flowers and then pop a pearl or gem into the centre of the bloom.

Included in the Forever Free paper pad are a set of quote toppers, I cut out and used the love design, adding this to my tulle hoop, secure it with a bit more hot glue.

And there you have a pretty floral tulle embroidery hoop to hang in your home, create more designs in co-ordinating papers and group them in a display for extra impact in your home.
